According to the Financial Times, Universal, 20th Century Fox, Paramount and Warner Bros, who are all reported to be in talks with Apple to bring their movie collections to the iTunes store, are pressuring Apple to reduce the number of devices (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/6c6aa286-7f08-11db-b193-0000779e2340.html) movie content from iTunes would be able to play on (namely, iPods).
The studios want to avoid the experience of the music industry, which has yet to recover from years of illegal digital piracy. Apple must introduce a new model for feature film content delivery, said one studio executive involved in the talks. With the average cost of a blockbuster film approaching $100m, movie studios had more to lose than music companies, he added. Were very willing to do a deal but were keen to get some concessions from Apple that will account for the differences between the value of music and television content and feature film content.
Currently, Apple's usage rights allow downloadable content to be played on an unlimited number of iPods (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304277) as well as up to 5 computers, although DVD burning is limited to archiving purposes only (DVD-Video burning is not supported).
Disney sold 125,000 movies (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060919142943.shtml) in its first week of operation on the iTunes store. While still small in comparison to DVD sales, Disney expects digital sales to add $50 million in revenue to its bottom line in the first year on the iTunes Store. The continued success of movie sales may make arguments for restricted usage rights fall on deaf ears to Apple executives, who would view such arguments as nit-picking a successful program.

Try enabling Certificate Revocation checking on your fully updated Mac OS X install and see how long it takes for Mac App Store to show up and how long it then takes to go through the various tabs.
Also for fun - try enabling password for the screensaver and 60 minute idle logout. Then put your laptop to sleep and come back 60 min later only to have hung login window that accepts no input - works that way every time for me.
For all the jabs they took at Windows - Apple's is most untested OS after Linux distros. Looks like they only do surface tests - only the defaults are covered.
just out of curiosity.. do you file bug reports?
i'm pretty guilty of not...

May I post a video along with some photos of a local S2K club that I was invited to their Dyno Day? The video is nothing special. Just a few pulls. Short video. I got tons of photos though :p
Please do! That type of stuff is totally welcome in this thread, but ESPECIALLY when it involves S2Ks. I'm seriously contemplating getting one this summer. I recently sold my Talon, and need a new project/fun/auto-x car, and have always loved the S2Ks. Can't wait to see what you have.

Tell me, what market does Apple concentrate on?
Since the Euro is higher than the dollar, I would say they prefer the EU. More profit per sold iDevice ;).
Personally I support this, it is not because I support this. I want to read a paper not being spammed with offers.

Going to replace the stock HDD with a WD Black 750GB. New to Mac and need to know what's the best way to test for bad sectors and stuff.
I would prefer it to be a thorough type of test before I start using it for important data.
Thanks for any help. :)

That's been their entire motivation all along. If they decide it's something they want to do, there's no reason not to support it.
I would be highly suspicious that they want to create their own maps to do it better than Google Maps. The riff between the two companies is more likely the reason. If they do their own version, it better be amazing or it will just make Apple look bad.

I know you WANT to give your solution... you're so close... c'mon... say it: "I think we should drastically increase taxation on wealthy Americans to fix this problem."
What I want to know is how exactly you expect businesses to grow jobs, expand operations, etc. in this type of situation. It seems fairly clear based on the facts that A) this wouldn't be near enough money to solve the problem B)that the end result in the long run will almost certainly be less growth, fewer jobs, and less government 'revenue' than before. C) that you'd kill what chance we have left at regaining a strong economy as large businesses would do whatever they could to get their assets in locations of lower tax burden.
Can you point me to a time in history where lower taxes led to more growth? Can you point me to the time when high taxes meant things were not progressing? As I seem to recall from the history classes I mostly failed, the mid-20th century was quite a boom for this country, right? Since I'm not so good at history, I looked up tax rates.
The last time tax rates were as low as they are now started in about 1925. What followed 5 years later? The Great Depression and massive unemployment. Shortly after 1930, tax rates skyrocketed. You know what else happened around that time? Massive growth and employment. Then, since 1981 when taxes started getting much lower, the economy slowly started to go downhill. Many people were still making gobs of money, but the middle class started to see things going away. There must be some huge factor I'm missing. Maybe you can fill me, and everyone else here, in.
And as for me wanting to "drastically increase taxes on wealthy Americans", you can stop right there. I want to get rid of the TAX BREAKS, the TAX CUTS...for everyone, and especially for excessively wealthy people.
'turned into' a a profit machine? As opposed to... when?
Providing health services and goods has always been a for-profit enterprise. This is exactly what has lead to the amazing growth in medical technology in the past 100 years.
While the advances in medical technology are great, let's not for one second think that the massive profit machine known as the health care industry is not as corrupt as can be. You take a service that by it's very definition is essential for life, and turn it into a profit operation...nothing good can come from that. That's why a Tylenol in a hospital costs $14 and you go in for a bad cough and walk out with a $21,000 bill. Ludicrous.
I tend to agree. Cut programs until our expenses match our current 'revenues.' When the two are equal or are in the black, let's immediately pass an balanged-budget amendment so this problem never happens again.
I think we definitely need to include in the cuts the health care and pensions for all senators, congressmen, house members, and any other "lawmaker" types.
For the record, they are paying their fair share. The top 50% of wage earners pay over 95% of the income tax.
And as pointed out above, they also make and have the vast majority of the money in this country.
If 90 people make $1,000 each, and 10 people make $50,000 each and they were evenly taxed on income, you'd still have 10% of the people paying 84.7% of the taxes. Is that unfair? No, it's not. Not in the slightest. And once you take out even a basic cost-of-living exemption, which should be the start of any tax system, that number would increase dramatically. Like, just over 95% maybe?
In this free market, you have the choice to make more money. And if you want to make metric ass-tons of money, you can pay the taxes that go along with that. Free market capitalism.
I agree. I would start with a MASSIVE simplification of the tax code, and virtual elimination of all government subsidies over the next 5-10 years.
Probably the only thing I agree with you on. Individual tax returns should require a post card and nothing else. Corporate taxes, well...I don't know enough about them to know how to simplify them, but I'm sure they are ridiculously complex.
I tend to agree. Reduce the budget by half, let them become more efficient and more reliant on technology. Take a more defensive posture around the globe and avoid entangling alliances, etc. abroad. That being said, I believe its important for us to maintain a strong national DEFENSE. We do have enemies... and defense is one of the primary constitutional roles of the federal government.
OK, two things.
If the top 50% are declaring earnings equivalent to 88% of the total, it seems entirely proportionate that they should be paying 95% of the total tax. Their true earnings are probably vastly more in percentage terms, anyway.
Yep.

Apple should really diversify their suppliers anyway, which is what they look like they are doing. Cut Samsung supply by 50%, and threaten all of it if they don't get their act together. Surely Samsung doesn't think that that they can bring in this kind of revenue on their own merit. Outside of LCD televisions, Samsung has an image problem, and even that has only improved in the last few years.

Saw one of these parked up down my road earlier, in my opinion it's the best car on the market today. Amazing looking, so comfortable, and very very fast when they need to be.
First, can you [timg] your pic? It is a little huge.
Second, I like everything about the new XJ.... except how it looks out back. The black D-pillar just really looks out of place. Unless, of course, the car is black itself, and you can't see the contrast. I'm still not sure why they chose to do that, as it just stands out too much. Otherwise, yea, it is a fantastic looking car.

It's on Line Islands (http://wikitravel.org/en/Kiribati#Line_Islands) located in Kiribati.
Yea, the place already at 1st Aug by the time you created the thread.

How is iDisk better integrated than DropBox? I have DropBox running on my desktop where it looks like any other folder. I can open that folder and drag things to and from it. I have DropBox running on my iPad and iPhone too, and all three devices sync automatically. I use 1Password on all three devices and my data file resides on DropBox, so 1Password syncs to all devices automatically. And, there's a web interface for DropBox, so I can get to it from any computer. So what's better on iDisk?
Yeah, iDisk doesn't even compare to DropBox. You get more storage, but that's about it.

so, the thing is, tomatocart has payment modules and i want to charge customers for the "pay on delivery" option, which is not supported, hence i have to edit the module itself.
i quote from TomatoCart's guides:
The payment php files in the /includes/modules/payment/ are responsible for rendering payment information for customers and handling payment gateway notifications; the files in the /admin/includes/modules/payment/ contains the configuration options to configure the payment module. And each payment method also have a language resource XML file in the /includes/languages/LANGUAGE_CODE/ modules/payment/.
so i basically have to edit the first two files, the one in "admin" and the one in "includes", and then update the language files...
i'm uploading the three files in folders that denote their location in a zip file.
i've edited the "admin" cod (cash on delivery) file and added the following, basically taken from a shipping method, that includes cost details (i'm adding the file in the zip file):
$osC_Database->simpleQuery("insert into " . TABLE_CONFIGURATION . " (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, date_added) values ('Payment Cost', 'MODULE_PAYMENT_COD_COST', '3.50', 'The payment cost for all orders using this payment method.', '6', '0', now())");

sad that old people dont want their children having sex when they are both old enough, or sad that those two are haveing sex?
Ok, I am 47. And if the poster were my my son and living under my roof, I am not sure how I would respond, to be honest.
To today, to paraphrase IIRC Chris Rock (or maybe Eddie Murphy), in my youth a shot cured you, but this ****** kills.". In my youth we did not have AIDS or Herpes, and most anything else was cured by a shot.
It is important that parents give a consistent and clear message of expecttions. A "blast" from my "past"; My best bud (mate) and I took our gf's to his gf's parents beach house the summer we graduated (my bud's parents were there with us).
We had gone to the beach late at night' but my bud's gf expressed concern that her parents were known to take late night beach walks. So that killed any thoughts we had of beach "fun". So we went back to the house. Ended up playing a board game. My bud's gf's parents came out and suggested that we quit the game, and maybe go down to the beach instead.
Talk about mixed messages!
The key is, and we don't still know all the details, is that the poster is 18. Is he still in HS? If he is the law is vague as to the "responsibilities" his parents still have legally till he graduates. If he has graduated from HS, then I take the perspective that my Dad had when I was "under age". "Either ist is my way, or the highway".
I am saying this only because it seems that the posters parents have reservations on this sleep over (thanks Sun Baked for the heads up). I am not so sure how I would respond if these two were my son or daughter.
So glad that I don't have any children. For if I had a daughter, she might be locked up in the attic till she was 35 [joke]. And my son would have been made fearful of "going all the way". For it was such a talk by my Dad, that made me think twice before getting stupid. And this was before people thought about suing for anything and everything.
